Blog 13:
An interesting weekend this weekend..... Two gigs the Friday and Saturday night at a lovely Theatre in Worcester. We were the Hirers for these gigs.
The week before and the week of I send a press release to all the local press and radio. Plus, I put an advert in Worcester’s most popular local paper.
I also have to submit a stage plan and tech spec to the theatre for the sound technician. The gigs were booked for our Dire Straits band on the Friday and then our Blondie on the Saturday.
On arrival, the first thing we noticed was that the main posters for Atomic Blondie in the foyer on entry and in box office had all been printed incorrectly. The tickets were £11 & £13 and the posters said £24 and £25. This was obviously a huge concern to us that it would affect our ticket sales – especially as the posters had been up for 2 months, meaning hundreds of people would have seen them.
Unfortunately, the on duty manager was unable to help or comment, but I requested that to save another 100 people seeing the wrong price, he and his staff changed them before that night’s performance.
On arrival the following day for our performance as Blondie we noticed that outside the venue, it was still advertising Friday’s event – the Dire Straits.
We were all very disappointed with the venue, not only their mistake on all the posters, but lack of effort on the day itself.
As we were hiring the venue, we obviously needed to sell as many tickets as possible to cover all our costs.
We had a very low turn-out on the Saturday and it was also more noticeable in comparison with the numbers from the Friday night, so it was clear the error on the posters did have a huge impact.
On the positive side, the venue is very nice and backstage facilities are good. Those who did attend had a great night and thoroughly enjoyed the show. I think they were also sad to see such poor support and lack of numbers. We gave the same show as always with 150% and 6 costume changes and wig changes.
Despite the error – we hope to go back next year.
