Creative Industries Work Placement - BLOG 6

Creative Industries Practical Project
Blog 6

This booking is totally different from all the rest as we are also the show promoter. As we have such a large local following, we decided to book a local venue to put on our show (Cardiff). This means there is much more involved for us. Firstly there is the booking the venue with the client and negotiating a price. I then have to take control of purchasing/printing tickets and wrist bands plus flyers and posters. I also email the venue a promotional photo and biog for their web site and organise ticket outlets.

From a month prior to the booking, i contact all local media (South Wales Echo, BBC radio Wales etc) and give them a Press Release and Photo. I then do this again 2 weeks prior and again the week of the show for a last minute push.

The Gig itself, all PA is supplied by the venue which means we only have to supply our instruments. We still have to leave home at 4pm to allow for un-loading and setting up and sound-check before doors open at 7.30pm.

We also decided to have a support band. We chose a local up and coming band. As they lacked experience, I also had to guide them in how to sound-check as they’d never had to do it before – this included how to sound-check the drum kit and terms used by the sound engineer.

We are also back again at the Venue on November 16th.

5hrs Promotion for Media (Radio / Newspaper / Magazine etc)
4 hrs Promotion (Distribution of flyers and posters in local shops and music outlets)
